Community Gardens

I have worked with community gardens for some years. First designing the Llanidloes wildlife garden in 2005. In 2009 I started work with Steve Jones (Sector 39) on setting up the start of a community garden at the Llanfyllin workhouse and then went on to developing the Cwm Harry community gardens. In 2011 I helped with the design and build of Glan Severn community garden, Berriew.

As part of the Get-Growing three year project I worked with a team of volunteers to developed three community market gardens and linked local food and communities. Our first site was Newtown community market garden, next to Newtown FE college, here we have created 35 micro allotments, and a 2.5 acre horticultural learning hub . Our second site is in Llanidloes, a food growing community garden with 12 micro allotments, communal fruit, herbs and wildlife area. Our third site is in Llanfyllin which is being developed as a edible forest garden.

The Get Grow project has now finished, but the team has formed a worker and producers co-op called Cultivate (Cwm Harry). Based on the Newtown site with horticultural training, food hub, nursery and shop.
